Bulldog Love

I can remember as a child begging my parents for a dog. We traveled a lot because my dad was in the military so it was harder to have pets since we moved every six months. I’ve owned all kinds of breeds of dogs, poodles, golden retriever, dachshund, bichon frise, terrier, Irish setter, I’ve owned so many other breeds throughout my life. They were all wonderful. When I was in my 40s I found English Bulldogs. These dogs captured my heart like no other ones ever had. I think for me, they are the closest to human children that it’s possible to get. They are so full of personality it’s as if you’re dealing with a fuzzy toddler all the time.

My bulldogs are constantly next to me. They are always sitting next to me, on my feet, have their head on my leg, snuggling in for the naps and adoring looks. You don’t have to wonder because you know that you are the sun the moon and the stars to this little dog. I always ask people if they are going to be home during the day time for their new puppy when they call to purchase one. It’s not because I’m nosey, it’s because it’s so important to this puppy that they are able to be with their person. They need it as much as they need air. Without enough love and attention they will be unhappy, destructive and even get sick. They don’t do well alone. Even other dogs will help them out if they have to be alone for a few hours without you. They do well in pairs because of their need for love and contact. Even with other animals in the home they still bond so tightly to their humans.

It’s close to Valentines Day and it always makes me think of the love that bulldogs so freely give. It’s such a privilege to share a life with one of these amazing pups. Happy Valentines to everyone out there!!
